YOGA WITH JAX
Yoga and Body Method classes in Exeter
Sharing my love of Yoga and Body Method with students of all ages, abilities and experience
With awareness on co-ordination of breath flow and ease of movement to create a practice which will improve strength, flexibility, vitality and mental clarity to aid concentration. You will be guided though a variety of flowing and held Asana (postures) promoting alignment and grounding, increasing space and freedom creating a wonderful feeling of wellbeing. You will notice the benefits immediately, a direct result of the parasympathetic nervous system which reduces the heart rate, lessens muscle tension and brain activity. All levels of experience, including beginners are welcome, students are encouraged to remain within their comfort zone and range of movement making this a class accessible to everyone.
For those who are a little unsure if Yoga is for them, Body Method is a great introduction and an effective form of exercise incorporating simple postures, pulsing of different muscle groups to achieve a toned, firm body with improved strength and posture.
Combining Yoga Asana, Pilates exercises and Callanetics.
Targeting problem areas such as thighs, bottom and stomach you will feel the benefits almost immediately.
Although the focus is on the more physical elements of Yoga, these classes help to increase energy levels as a result of improved circulation but when at rest, help to improve sleep patterns from the awareness of breath throughout the practice.
Body Method is suitable for students of all abilities and experience; they are friendly, low impact classes which incorporate core stability, improving upper body strength and bring alignment to the body.
Even as a teenager attending my first Yoga class I noticed and enjoyed not only the expected physical opening but also an amazing sense of calm and space. After moving around the UK I discovered Yoga again later in life and attended Hatha, Ashtanga Vinyasa and Sivananda classes as often as possible. I was hooked! The effects were even more noticeable in adult life providing me with an increased of energy, focus and contentment, something I want to share with everyone. I have been teaching in Exeter since 2002 and gained my Teaching Diploma with the British Wheel of Yoga in 2008, studying Physiology, Philosophy and Ancient History with Angela Ashwin over an informative and enjoyable number of years. My classes encourage a smooth flowing breath to co-ordinate movement, postures which will centre, improve vitality and increase mental clarity. Students notice the benefits of this practice almost immediately, a direct result of stimulation of the parasympathetic nervous system which reduces the heart rate, lessens muscle tension and brain activity, creating a wonderful sense of peace which is vital in our busy Western lives. Classes offer a range of held and dynamic postures and are suitable for all levels and experience, for those who would like to deepen their practice to those who have never experienced Yoga before. My classes follow the classical teachings of Raja Yoga (Yoga of Kings), where the body is considered the vehicle for our spiritual energy so we always remain within a place of comfort and ease.
I also teach Body Method classes which are a combination of three disciplines; Callanetics, Pilates and Yoga designed to improve posture and core strength, isolating, strengthening then lengthening different muscle groups to help achieve a toned, firm body. These are friendly classes and a perfect introduction to the physical aspect of Yoga and suitable for all abilities and experience, even those who have had no experience of similar disciplines before and a little nervous of starting something new.
The aim is for the student to become the observer finding balance between ease and effort.
In 2011 I opened the Lotus Loft Yoga Centre in Exeter and have been blessed to share the space with like-minded people.
